Effortless Poem
Oh to have
A life that is effortless
A joyful journey
Without all the stress
But I am busy
And have so much to do
So I push myself harder
To keep up with the new
I focus on facts
Results and outcomes
But I lose myself
By chasing breadcrumbs
If I was clear
And in present mode
I’d change my thoughts
And ease my load
Instead of viewing
Every task as a chore
I’d stick to my priorities
And be willing to explore
I’d skip the judgement
Impatience and dread
I’d be curious and courageous
And discretion led
Absorbed in the now
To truly be in flow
I’d be effortlessly living
In my unique glow
Why the rush
To find a solution
For being and becoming
Could be my resolution
And in that state
Of acceptance and commitment
I’d discover the truth
That life has no blueprint
In Session 7 of the Happiness Course at Melbourne School of Philosophy, we are encouraged to observe ‘Effortless Action.’ Whilst the true definition of ‘effortless’ would mean not requiring any physical or mental action, I can really relate to not being ‘bogged down’ by a task and taking action in an effortless way.
How often do we bring what we feel to a task? How often do those feelings stop us from completing a task? What would it be like to go about life in an effortless way? These are all questions I pondered as I wrote this poem! With love, Sue Ellson🙂
