Yearning Poem

Yearning Poem By Sue Ellson

Yearning Poem

By Sue Ellson

A subtle vibe
A gentle wish
A craving now
An empty dish

A yearning for
Something now
I can’t wait
Please, somehow

Why do we long
For what is missing
And forget
The joy of wishing

Let the pause
Before manifestation
Truly be
Our divine inspiration

To see anew
Our heart’s inclination
A guided gift
For joyful contemplation

See a yearning
As a possibility
For you to choose
Your own reality

I was sitting on an aircraft returning from Sydney to Melbourne and was writing another poem that will go in an upcoming book when I came across the word ‘yearning’ and wanted to explore it in more detail.

I feel that when we ‘yearn’ for something, it can be a cue to reflect on what is important to us. However, I suspect that most of us usually perceive that what we are yearning for could solve a current challenge, disappointment or void in our life.

I also think we can become fixated on something we are yearning for and miss acknowledging what we already have and what we can be grateful to have in our lives right now.

I have found that ‘yearning’ for something usually gives me hope for the future. It also reminds me that I can choose how I see my reality. Sure, getting what I ‘want’ could resolve the ‘yearning’ but I have discovered that releasing that yearning and trusting what happens has also helped me manage daily life in a more gentle and kind way. With love, Sue Ellson 🙂
