Camberwell Catchup 5 – Artificial Intelligence Theme
After hosting monthly events for people who live, work or network in Camberwell under the brand name Camberwell Network from 2012 – 2022, I have re-started monthly Camberwell Catchups on the 1st Wednesday of the Month from 7:30am – 8:30am at My Other Brother, Rear of 586 Burke Road, Camberwell, Melbourne, Victoria 3124.
Our fifth event was held on Wednesday 2 September 2026 and our theme was ‘Artificial Intelligence.’
Guests Tips
The fabulous guests who joined us provided the following personal development tips:
Cherie Werner-Jones – Have privacy concerns about use of data – but can change your settings on your AI platform of choice to turn off ‘Help improve AI’ because if you don’t, whatever you enter will be re-used elsewhere. Before you start with a prompt, write down everything about your business, client avatar, business model etc and create a Project so that answers are provided based on that context and perform specific tasks. Can photograph handwritten notes and have them reproduced in text, summarised and be given the top tips. If you talk your prompt, may be less likely to censor your request and the AI can hear your tone of voice
Colin Freckleton – You can develop a good ‘relationship’ with AI but don’t trust it 100%. Use your own nous as a simple word change can distort the output it produces (example of a human food advertisement being changed to a dog food advertisement)
Geoffrey Fong – Useful for marketing communications but important to get some training and feed in your details on branding, business data, voice etc so it can write articles in areas you would like to be known for. Can also be used for research and creativity, strategic planning etc. Helps you do things yourself in an AI media world
Patrick Davis – Use it for dictating emails and it saves typing but I still make sure it formats in a human way – for example, remove emdashes and bold. Use MS Copilot Business to keep data private
Patrick Docherty – Not consciously using it at the moment
Richard Serpell – Use it for getting ideas, refining what I do and use Replit for coding a solution to automatically evaluate properties but found that it couldn’t access external online data – it had to be supplied with the data first. Very concerned about the environmental impact of using AI, energy and water use when fresh water is only used to cool once (because it is cheaper) when it could be recycled. Need to support companies to be more accountable and develop cooling equipment. It is not going away. Will be forced into improvement to reduce emissions and may need government to incentivise that process
Roberto Russi – If AI is being used in industry, the business model needs to understand how it works, do the research, look at competitors and risks. Have used it to develop a complex financial modelling tool within six weeks and it found complex calculations related to schedules and understood what I was trying to do and gave me the formula and referenced one to another and tested them. Could use screen shots to provide input. There is a big difference between the paid version and the free version and it can be used to ‘talk to a barrister’ (but still need to check)
Sue Ellson – Be aware that AI can have unintended consequences when you give it a command. Be aware that it can find problems but you may not wish it to act on your behalf unless you have all of the risks assessed and the relevant security in place. Be conscious that younger people may not have the same work experience knowledge to give it the ‘right’ instructions
Tom Docherty – Have used it for generating ideas for university assignments but still use my own mind to pick the ideas I use
Wilson Tu – Output is only as good as prompt input and I use it to create a better prompt
Yvonne Junor – Found it useful to help generate a marketing plan for my upcoming book launch
