Camberwell Catchup 4 – Social Media Strategy Theme
After hosting monthly events for people who live, work or network in Camberwell under the brand name Camberwell Network from 2012 – 2022, I have re-started monthly Camberwell Catchups on the 1st Wednesday of the Month from 7:30am – 8:30am at My Other Brother, Rear of 586 Burke Road, Camberwell, Melbourne, Victoria 3124.
Our fourth event was held on Wednesday 5 August 2026 and our theme was ‘Social Media Strategy.’
Guests Tips
The fabulous guests who joined us provided the following personal development tips:
Aarush Nagar – There is a lot of cyber crime and scams around now so be very careful about putting your details online and not give out any sensitive information. There are a lot of scam emails and not every lead is genuine.
Carmen Loosz – Genuine social media content cuts through and consistency has value.
Carmen Smith – When you are compiling content for social media, make sure you know your audience and who it is intended for. Many business owners go to what they know and crow about how good they are and what they have done in business. People expect you to be good in your business. They want to see themselves in your content and see you talking about something they can use. It is like dating, no one wants to listen to someone talking about themselves all the time, it hurts the brain. Relentless promotion of you, you, you or me, me, me is tiring. Remember who you are talking to and their goals, their pain points and what’s in it for them. If using AI, set up projects so that you can give the AI tool the rules for each assignment – like removing em dashes and checking its own work. Consider a paid subscription to keep your data safe and not accessible to others.
The people who will lose their job are the ones that refuse to use AI – we are in a similar technological revolution as to what we experienced 25 years ago when the internet was launched and we were ‘scared’ to put our credit card details online. There is now am AI ‘race’ between Europe, USA and China.

Claude has 13 free modules worth studying – they take about 20 minutes each https://claude.com/resources/courses
Each Generative AI Platform Large Language Model has its own ‘personality’ as the dataset comes from different sources and has been trained differently.
Cherie Werner-Jones – Reviews are great, but rather than just text, consider securing video reviews. Ask your clients to say a few words to camera, record and post. Be aware that AI is scanning your content and then spamming you – in my case, telling me about my own book that I haven’t written.
Colin Freckleton – Must get around to using it but can see that it does work for some people to reach their target audience. I don’t have the time to scroll as I am too busy living but can see it being useful for inspiration if used in the right way.
Geoffrey Fong – After producing many videos on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok over the last 10 years, now realising that I can repurpose the videos I have previously created.
Gerard Torpy – Know thyself and be authentic to who you are (you may or may not decide to use social media)
Ken Maher – Currently developing a LinkedIn Strategy with ChatGPT but find that I have to change the structure. Have learnt not to trust AI and to check for accuracy. Find a lot of the created content I have to delete.
Maria Di Pietro – Concerned that posting and replying can feel pushy and that some people on social media only produce content designed to ‘feed’ the algorithm. Have certain hesitations due to levels of ageism and discrimination in the community. Often find that it is mostly used by consultants and I prefer not to come across the same way but still enjoy scrolling through the newsfeed.
Richard Serpell – Rather than just posting, consider commenting as well as it demonstrates that you don’t just think about yourself, you think of others too. If you have included em dashes — as a result of using AI, make sure you replace them with a single dash – and if you have used AI in the creation of your content, be sure to label it as created with the assistance of AI to comply with new EU rules.
Sue Ellson – Change your LinkedIn Profile URL to just your name at https://www.linkedin.com/public-profile/settings and From Now On (my three favourite words), connect with everyone you meet online (text, email, direct message) and in person (aim for three people per event) and on LinkedIn you can use the scan code feature on your mobile phone. Also recommend that you join the Google Local Guides Connect Program so that you earn points for all of your Google Reviews (and you score more points if you add a photo or a video at the same time)
Yvonne Junor – Keep it Simple Sweet (KISS Principle) and be persistent and post weekly.
