SACKED FROM A JOB // Have you ever been sacked from a job? 🤔Today on📻 ABC Radio Melbourne 774AM Afternoons, Brigitte Duclos and I discussed being sacked from a job and the overall stress that occurs.

Selected highlights include:

✅ being sacked or made redundant and the shock of that experience
✅ my own experience of being sacked when I was pregnant
✅ not being able to find work when I was pregnant
✅ being triggered by the words redundant or unemployed
✅ going through a ‘Radical Forgiveness’ letter writing process
✅ understanding that being sacked was a catalyst for an amazing future
✅ feeling unwanted and like a failure
✅ People2People research showing 68% of Australian employees are now worried about potential redundancies in their workplace
✅ not having a career strategy when you are busy in your job
✅ PTSD and feeling traumatised for years after a sacking
✅ the value of seeking professional help, utilising an Employee Assistance Program or mental health services
✅ updating your resume in full and your LinkedIn Profile to remind you of your capabilities and transferable skills
✅ spending some time reflecting and becoming more targeted in your job search
✅ building up a three months cash buffer (for regular expenses) as a form of income protection
✅ the importance of respect in the sacking process
✅ different feeling for high profile and senior level employees
✅ outplacement programs offering less services for lower level roles expecting you to secure work in three months and longer service times for senior executives seeking a new role
✅ having a Plan B – building a network and developing your net-worth
✅ calling 10 friends and getting a job-for-now to stop the monkey mind
✅ feeling a failure and understanding your job is not your identity
✅ creating three networks in life, family and friends, work and profession, hobbies and interests
✅ using networking and referrals to secure your next role

It was great to hear stories from various callers and their amazing stories of ultimate success!

I also loved hearing the song ‘Don’t bring me down’ by ELO when I returned to listening to the program!

Thanks to Producer Virginia Millen for reaching out!

You can listen to my part between 00:05:41 and 00:16:21
