Cherish Poem

Cherish Poem By Sue Ellson Inverloch Jetty Victoria Australia

Cherish Poem

By Sue Ellson

Cherish the moments
The tears, the laughter
Cherish the thoughts
The times that matter

Cherish the choices
The fears, the banter
Cherish the voices
Of friends that linger

We are sold a romance
That resides in one person
But reality shows us
That is just a distraction

For the truth is there in plain view
It seems our friends already knew
Our times of need
They are there to feed
Our loss, our love
Will ultimately be freed

As I reflect on the journey of life, the people who come, the people who go, the people that I thought I would always know, the people I wish I could love some more, the people I cannot wave from the shore, I have come to realise that I must always cherish what happens along the way.

I may not be able to keep everyone close or grow closer to the ones who love me, but that does not mean that I do not cherish their value and their gift to the world. I have recently been completely inspired and cherished by a person with an extremely good soul. There are times when I wish I could do more. There are times when I wish there was something I could say to make the pain that they feel go away.

Another treasured friend reminded me today about the challenge of living an ethical life, how it can be lonely. But she also said how it can bring its own kind of freedom.

She then quoted philosopher Marsilio Ficino, ‘The role of friends is to meet and counsel one another in order to find the truth.’ I guess what I am saying here is that along the way, cherish those friends who help you find your truth, they are more special than they realise. With love, Sue Ellson 🙂
