Transcript

Sue Three poems End of the Year everyone please welcome Sue Ellson [Applause]

Thank you Les and Kev and that’s something I’ve said at every appearance at open mic night this year but I would like to make a really special thank you to you guys because I never dress up and I’m wearing dress up.

We all have an opportunity to present our poems and Kev has been gracious enough to allow Laurie and I to take our little clips from open mic night and share it on social media so we’ve had an opportunity to extend our reach and our stories further and hopefully encourage more people.

And I’ve got two guests here who’ve come tonight as well so I’ve been able to invite other people to hear this amazing work so I wanted to spend some of my time not reading one of my poems but really acknowledging you and saying thank you it is the end of the year and I think you know we all owe you a special round of applause for that.

Now I wrote this poem back in on the 20th of December 2022. It’s called End of Year Rush.

The end of year is coming fast
The end of year has me aghast
Everyone rushing as if time is ending
Everyone risking their healthy living

Please take a moment
To stop and focus
Must you do everything
Like hocus pocus

What can wait
What is urgent
What is essential
What is important

Leave the rest
For another day
Slow your speed
And live your way

Smile and observe
What you have achieved
Over the last 12 months
Your blessings received

What challenges have you conquered
What fears have you overcome
A new year is waiting
To see what you’ll become

Pat yourself on the back
So I can share your glee
Another year is nearly over
On the path to truly be

And the second poem I actually wrote for Busybird because I think you guys do a lot of this and it’s called Inspiration.

What does it take
To follow through
To do what you say
And then make sure you do

Is it within
From will or rage
Is it from others
Who are wise and sage

Is it from hope
Of what could happen
A blind faith followed
Despite no pattern

To truly be inspired
Don’t wait for a reason
Just take the first step
And find joy in every season

Thank you [Applause]

Thanks for the acknowledgement Sue although you only acknowledge Kev not me but that’s okay I’m not going to make an issue you mentioned one person’s name that’s okay I’m not going to be an issue I don’t want to be a martyr It’s good It’s all right It’s all right It’s good You didn’t talk about your LinkedIn stuff so how you know as a writer promoting yourself on whatever channels you have and how well you’re doing on LinkedIn so did you want to say anything about that?

About LinkedIn?

Yeah um You do have a book about LinkedIn I believe?

I have two books about LinkedIn.

There you go.

But the best advice I can give all creatives is to make sure you’ve got a LinkedIn Profile because you can change the URL to optimise your name in search results and if someone Googles you your LinkedIn Profile will come up and you can put your books on there as Publications and it looks really good.

The other thing is everywhere you can put the ISBN code of your book like you’ve got it on your website and on your LinkedIn Profile and so on, all of the generative AI chat computers you know the AI that’s out there will index your content and you’re more likely to be found in search results so as many times as you can get your book written up somewhere that’s good and LinkedIn.

Thanks so I ask you this Sue because totally all free what you’re saying to do

Yep

So one things or one of the things we get asked which is one of the hardest things to do is write is marketing your book and there’s a lot of people who make massive promises and charge you lots of money and won’t necessarily translate into sales so strategies like Sue are totally essential to getting yourself out there your book’s not going to be discovered just randomly by magic it is a case of just pushing pushing pushing pushing I don’t know what Allison’s looking about you’re still thinking about that joke from four and a half minutes ago. That joke has come and gone.
