1. What Is LinkedIn?
LinkedIn is currently the world’s largest international online network of individuals from across the globe.
Originally launched in May 2003 and acquired by Microsoft in June 2016, it has developed from its original concept of being a network of professionals into a formidable publishing platform, a respected social media site (on both desktop/laptop and mobile phone/tablet) and a lead generation, sales and recruitment resource that has completely disrupted online selling and recruitment selection methodologies with its ability to attract opportunities within LinkedIn and via Search Engines (in particular, Google).
I am very pleased to see that LinkedIn includes many usability features that allow people of all abilities and backgrounds to access useful information either with or without assistive technology. This universal design principle can be of significant benefit to you and other LinkedIn Users if you complete your LinkedIn Profile or Page in full with text, images, audio and video and engage with the content in the Newsfeed, Articles, Newsletters, Events and Groups.
There has been a significant increase in the number of new features added to LinkedIn on a regular basis as a result of the many requests from LinkedIn Users and the competition they face from other social media platforms. The information in this book was current at the time of publication.
The specific links and settings may change but you will find that in most cases, the strategies mentioned here will last a lot longer.
As a freemium model offering limited free access to millions of users, it has acquired users across diverse industries and is particularly popular with well-educated white collar professionals.
